LandStar's Mulching Services

Mulching is one of the easiest and most effective lawn maintenance practices. Mulching refers to the process of laying a protective coating of organic materials like tree bark chips, clippings of grass, leaves and other materials. The main benefit of mulching is moisture retention, which in turn promotes lawn growth. A layer of mulch helps protect the soil from eroding, regulates the temperature of the soil and prevents growth of weeds.

We provide mulching services that are customized as per your needs. Our mulching services will help your lawn conserve moisture, and over time, you will find that your lawn needs watering less frequently. Our mulching services help give your lawn a neat, groomed and finished look that enhances its appearance. Further, the kind of organic mulching materials that we use are a source of nutrition to your lawn, and help it retain that rich green color.

Mulching Advice, Tips & Ideas

Benefits of Mulching

Although most people are primarily concerned with the ability of mulch to enhance the appearance of the lawn, there are other benefits that are related to its health and longevity. Mulching helps prevent compaction of the soil after a heavy shower. It prevents loss of water, and soil splashing which helps check diseases from being splashed on to your lawn. One of the biggest benefits of mulching is that it helps control and reduce weed growth. For this however, make sure that the mulching material is free of weeds. The material should also be layered deep enough into the soil to suffocate weeds that might exist in the lawn. Regular mulching helps keep the lawn cool in summer and warm during the winter. All these benefits add to the beauty of your lawn by providing a lush, green color that is uniform across the lawn, and has a satiny texture.

Mulching Materials

Hardwood mulch is made of bark from hard wood trees that is composted for a minimum of 6 months before being shredded. This kind of mulch although it looks great, does have a tendency to compact.

Cypress mulch can come in two types – Grade “A” All Bark and Premium Cypress. Grade A All Bark Cypress has high resistance to rotting, and prevents the growth of insects. Because it doesn’t rot as easily, you will need to apply less mulch as the years go by. Premium cypress is primarily used for inhibiting weed growth, and it offers little or no nutritional benefits.

Pine Bark mulch doesn’t compact, and has high soil conditioning properties. Cedar mulch can also be rot resistant, but don’t expect a high level of nutritional value. This kind of mulch turns gray quicker than other mulching materials.

Cocoa shell mulch is made of exactly that – the crumpled shell of cocoa beans.
This mulch has actually been found to destroy certain insects like slugs.

Before the mulching begins, all weeds are sprayed, and dead leaves are cleaned out. After this, mulch is cultivated, and the beds are edged to give it a professional finish. An inch thick layer of mulch is laid, and this can last for the season.
